Facebook cited in 20% of divorces
Facebook, the social networking site, is being blamed for 20% of divorce filings. One British law firm, Divorce-Online, claims almost one in five petitions they processed cited Facebook. Read more
McAfee reveals the riskiest web domains to visit
McAfee, Inc. issued its third annual Mapping the Mal Web report this week. Africa’s Cameroon (.cm), which borders Nigeria, has succeeded Hong Kong (.hk) as the web’s riskiest country domain. Japan (.jp) was rated the safest country domain. According to McAfee, 36.7 percent of Cameroon’s .cm domains pose a security risk. PR of China (.cn), Samoa (.ws), Philippines (.ph), and Former Soviet Union (.su) round out the top five riskiest country domains. Read more
Senate Commitee investigates aggressive Internet sales tactics
The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, chaired by Senator Jay Rockefeller, is conducting a hearing into customers unwittingly being duped into joining online loyalty programs when making a purchase. According to Senator Rockefeller, companies like Affinion, Vertrue, and Webloyalty “have made more than $1.4 billion dollars through these tactics and charged more than 30 million Americans.” Rockefeller estimates that 4 million American consumers are currently having their credit cards billed for these loyalty programs and most are unaware of it.
