Fitness Training Session 6: The halfway point
Today was the sixth of my twelve training sessions with Little Miss Sunshine. It was decided after the last session that we would not emphasize cardiovascular training as much since I do a good job of that on my own. I do work out on cardiovascular equipment for an hour on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
After stretching, I followed Little Miss Sunshine to our designated exercise area. We started with medicine ball push ups with my feet spread apart. This exercise not only develops upper body strength, but also works the core muscles. A “mountain climbing” exercise followed. This involved starting in a push up position, then alternately bringing my knees individually into my abdominal area. I was a little slow performing this exercise due to some tightness in a tendon on my right quadricep. It was not comfortable.
My esteemed trainer also had me perform lunges across the floor that included balancing on one leg after each lunge, alternating legs. I was pretty good at this one. Also on the menu today were lateral rows, bicep curls while in the squatting position leaning against the wall with a balance ball, as well as hip lifts while perched in a push up position on a balancing pod.
Each exercise was performed multiple times with improvement each time. I am not prone to tightness in that particular quadricep tendon, so I am not sure why it was bothering me today. As I write this blog entry, the tendon is a little sore.
I noticed a little looseness in the jeans that I wore to work today. I feel good about the results so far.
