Unemployment stays at 9.6% in October, 151k jobs added

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the unemployment rate remained at 9.6% in October with 151,000 jobs added. Private sector employment increased by159,000 jobs, while government cut 8,000 jobs.
Let’s breakdown the numbers:
- The unemployment rate for high school drop outs was 15.3%, down from 15.4% last month.
- 4.7% of college graduates were unemployed, up from 4.4% the previous month.
- The jobless rate for high school graduates was 10.1%, up from 10.0%.
- 9.7% of men 20 and over were unemployed, down from 9.8%.
- Women 20 and over had an unemployment rate of 8.1%, up from 8.0%.
- 27.1% of 16 to 19 year olds were unemployed, up from 26.0% last month.
- Jobless rate among whites was at 8.8%, up from 8.7% last month.
- 15.7% of blacks were jobless, down from 16.1% the prior month
Although the unemployment rate did not change in October, a healthy increase in jobs was great news.
